Fiorentina has made a comeback after losing to West Ham in the Europa Conference League final last season. They reached the final four by defeating Viktoria Plzen in the quarter-finals, despite facing unforeseen challenges. Their goal is to right their wrongs in this year’s competition.
Fiorentina will face Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa Conference League for a second back-to-back final appearance. Blauw-Zwart, a surprise in this season’s competition, secured their first semi-final in any UEFA competition since 1975-75 when they were UEFA Cup runners-up. They secured the top spot with 16 out of 18 points in the group stage and knocked out Greek side PAOK with a 3-0 score.
Club Brugge, despite being considered outsiders in the last four, is expected to return to their homeland with a slight deficit from the first leg. Under interim manager Nicky Hayen, the Belgian side has undergone a complete revival, with eight consecutive victories across all competitions and six clean sheets. With four matches left, Brugge is in a strong position to win the Jupiler Pro League title. However, they have not defeated any Italian opposition in their last 11 such clashes. Last season’s UECL runners-up Fiorentina have boosted their morale by defeating relegation-threatened Sassuolo in a 5-1 win, reiniting their top-seven hopes through the league. With five wins and an equal number of draws, Viola will be confident in their lead ahead of the return leg in Bruges.
Angola striker M’Bala Nzola may miss Thursday’s match with Club Brugge due to a muscle injury, while Rolando Mandragora may be fit for midweek European action due to back pain.
Brandon Mechele, Maxim De Cuyper, and Igor Thiago missed PAOK’s second-leg clash due to suspension, but should return to the starting line-up. Andreas Skov Olsen recovers from hip injury, while Dedryck Boyata remains out for Club Brugge.
