Pochettino rues growing gap

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his Tottenham Hotspur side now face a ‘massive gap’ to the top of the Premier League table, having drawn 1-1 at home with West Brom.

Having fallen behind just four minutes in at Wembley, Spurs rescued a share of the spoils 16 minutes from time when Harry Kane fired home.

However, they were unable to make some late pressure and count and should Manchester City win at Huddersfield Town on Sunday, the Londoners will be 13 points off the pace.

Pochettino admitted: “Yes it is true. The gap is now 10 points and that is massive in the Premier League.

“We moved the ball so slow in the first half hour, but maybe because we concede the goal – it was a massive impact for us.

“In the last 15 minutes we played better, moved the ball better and found better space. The second half was very good, the team played very well and we created many chances.

“It is disappointing to drop two points, but it is difficult for me to explain why we have not won the game.

“The effort was massive, but in the last third we need to be more clinical in front of goal. The team created the chances to win and the possibilities to score.”

Spurs have now dropped eight points from a possible 12 in their last four league games and will hope to get back on track at Leicester City on Tuesday evening.

They are 8/11 to win at the King Power Stadium, with the draw priced at 14/5, while Tottenham are 8/1 to claim a 2-1 victory.
