Serbia returns to the European Championship after 24 years, having struggled to qualify for the tournament. Under head coach Dragan Stojkovic, Serbia’s optimism was boosted by their impressive performance in the World Cup qualifiers, where they clinched the top spot in their group. However, they faced numerous problems in the EURO qualifiers, placing them in one of the weakest groups. Despite this, Serbia finished second on the table and secured a place at the Euro.
Serbia’s recent results were not impressive, with only two of the last six matches won. In a friendly against Cyprus, Stojkovic’s team won 1-0, but Cyprus had several chances to score. England, which has been waiting for a major title since the 1966 World Cup, has been close but ultimately lost in the final against Italy. Gareth Southgate’s team finished with a commanding six points more than Italy in the group. However, in March, England had two friendly matches, failing to win.
Serbia’s attacking line, featuring Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic, is the best part of the team. However, Serbia faces defensive issues with lack of big stars and a right wing-back. Andrija Zivkovic, who is naturally a right-winger, has been a potential replacement, causing Serbia numerous problems in recent games.
England, with stars in every position, is likely stronger than Serbia in every position, and they should not have many problems to score three or four goals in the first EURO round.
