This summer has been one of crazy transfer fees throughout Europe. Premier League clubs have been some of the main culprits in the transfer market when it comes to splashing the cash.

However, a few English clubs have made some shrewd signings this summer. Here are some of those signings:

Sead Kolasinac (Arsenal, free)

For me, the Bosnian defender could well prove to be the biggest bargain buy of the summer. The 24-year-old has a growing reputation as a highly versatile performer having impressed at Schalke in the Bundesliga last season.

In fact, last season no defender in the German top-flight produced more than Kolasinac’s five assists last season. The powerful star has already shown flashes of what he is about for the Gunners.

Kolasinac’s versatility could also prove to be a key factor in his success at Arsenal. He can play at centre-back, left-back, left wing-back and even as a left-winger.

Javier Hernandez (West Ham, £16million)

The diminutive Mexican international returns to England after a two-year spell in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. During his time in Germany, the former Manchester United striker scored 40 goals in his two campaigns in German football.

At Manchester United, he became renowned as a ‘super sub’. However, his time in Leverkusen has proven he can score goals as a regular starter if given the opportunities.

West Ham have been looking for a prolific striker for the past few years. In ‘Chicharito’, they may just have found the man to provide goals on a regular basis. The 29-year-old is odds of 40/1 to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

Joe Hart (West Ham, Loan)

Questions have been asked a number of times about Joe Hart’s concentration and performances in recent years. However, the Hammers have signed the England number one in a perfect scenario.

The east London club are trying before they buy the goalkeeper on a permanent basis. Hart will be desperate to impress at West Ham, as he now has serious competition for the England number jersey for next year’s World Cup.

No matter what his critics may say he is still a decent goalkeeper and at a good age to carry on playing for a good while yet.

The Hammers are in a no-lose situation here. If Hart fails to impress he just leaves the club next summer and the Hammers offload his massive wages.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester, £25million)

Some may say that Leicester have gambled a lot of money on the Nigerian youngster. However, by today’s standard, his fee is not a majorly large one.

Iheanacho at 20 is a promising young striker seemingly with the world at his feet. At former club Manchester City, the youngster was never going to get a proper chance to shine, not with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero available to Pep Guardiola.

Despite limited opportunities, Iheanacho has shown that he knows exactly how to find the back of the net. With regular first-team football in the Midlands, the striker has the potential to become a very good Premier League striker.

Jermain Defoe (Bournemouth, free)

Veteran England international Jermain Defoe has arrived on the south coast on a free transfer from relegated Sunderland. A relegation clause in his contract allowed the Cherries to sign the striker without a fee.

Despite his advancing years, the diminutive striker has scored 15 times in both of the last two Premier League seasons in a very poor Sunderland team.

Defoe was feeding off scraps in the north east. However, Bournemouth are a more effective attacking force and create far more chances for their forward players.

The experienced forward could potentially forge a very potent strike partnership with last season’s star player Josh King in attack this season.
