Puel asking Mahrez for more

Leicester City boss Claude Puel has backed forward Riyad Mahrez to recover quickly from a disappointing display in the 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Mahrez, who has scored just twice in the Premier League so far this season, was replaced 20 minutes from time against the Hammers at the London Stadium last Friday and cut a downbeat figure as he trudged off.

However, Puel is expecting a major reaction from the Algeria international, hopefully when the Foxes play host to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening.

He told reporters: “We spoke at training, it is not a problem. Riyad was a little frustrated in the second half, without the possibility of seeing more of the ball.

“That is a good thing, when a player is not happy. But now it is important to help him to have more consistency in the game, because he is a valuable player for us.

“If he can show this game after game it will be fantastic for him and for the squad. I’m sure he will show his quality for the next game.”

Puel also confirmed that defender Robert Huth (foot) and midfielder Matty James (Achilles) are the only major injury absentees for the clash with Spurs,

Last season Spurs romped to a 6-1 Premier League victory over City at the King Power Stadium, with Harry Kane scoring four times and Son Heung-Min getting on the scoresheet twice.

Leicester are available at 4/1 to exact revenge with a win on Tuesday evening, with the hosts 16/1 to claim a 2-1 victory in the east Midlands, while Jamie Vardy can be backed at 13/8 to score at any time.
