RB LEIPZIG vs BESIKTAS

This group had drama written all over it when it was drawn earlier this season, and it certainly hasn’t disappointed. Last season’s neutral-friendly Monaco were the favourites for the top spot, with newcomers RB Leipzig also in the mix alongside Besiktas and Porto. Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for some of the teams though.

Monaco are the shock of the group, failing to win a single one of their games so far and already guaranteed a bottom place finish, whilst RB Leipzig and Porto come into this final game locked on points as they battle for 2nd place, with the Portuguese side holding the advantage in terms of head to head record. A win for RB Leipzig could see them jump up into 2nd, but they will be hoping for a favour from Monaco when they face Porto.

All the while, Besiktas sit comfortably at the top of the group. Their 11 point haul in five games has already secured them an unlikely group win, and they can afford to rest a fair few players for this trip. That would be very favourable for Leipzig, but the Turkish visitors aren’t going to lie down for them.

The hosts suffered defeat at the weekend, losing 4-0 at Hoffenheim to make it three wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last five games. They did show that they can perform under pressure in their last Champions League outing though, beating Monaco 4-1 away from home to keep them in the race for qualification.

Besiktas, contrary to their opponents, put in a fine performance at the weekend to thrash rivals Galatasaray 3-0 and extend their unbeaten streak to ten games. Away from home they have lost two of their last six though, although attacking wise they are just as lethal as ever and have failed to score in just one of their away games this season.

RB Leipzig have won five of their last six at home as well, but have only kept two clean sheets there this season. Even with Besiktas resting players we expect them to get on the scoresheet against the defensively vulnerable Germans, so we’re backing Both Teams to Score on Wednesday.

The rest of the tie plays into RB Leipzig’s hands though. They have the home advantage and a much greater incentive to go out and win the match, so we’re backing them to win with a 2-1 correct score predictions.
