Both CD Castellon and Deportivo La Coruna have secured promotion back to the Segunda Division after winning their regular season groups. The two teams will now face off in the grand final to determine the Primera Federacion champion for the 2023-24 season. Last year, CD Castellon defeated Deportivo La Coruna in the Primera RFEF playoff semifinals, securing a 4-3 aggregate win. Deportivo is confident in their chances of success, having an unbeaten streak of 19 games.
CD Castellon, who narrowly missed promotion last season, has an impressive 82 points and are considered the best team in Group II. Orelluts, despite gaining promotion, has struggled in the final weeks of the season, losing three consecutive league matches without a victory. However, their strength and desire to serve up a ruthless revenge against Castellon are strong reasons to believe they can take a fine lead before the second-leg trip to Valencia.
Imanol Idiakez, with a clean health record and no suspension concerns, has the freedom to select key players for the two-legged final against Castellon. However, he is expected to maintain his usual starting eleven.
American goalkeeper Brian Schwake was sent off for a red card in the final match of the Primera RFEF – Group II season. First-choice goalkeeper Gonzalo Crettaz is expected to return, and coach Dick Schreuder may consider using experienced Borja Granero in midfield.
