Wenger hails Ozil’s improvements

Arsenal’s German playmaker Mesut Ozil has hit top form in recent weeks due to a more ‘determined attitude’ according to Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.

The 29-year-old has been criticised in some quarters for a perceived lack of effort at times during his four years in north London, but Ozil has been a standout performers in recent games, excelling in the 2-0 derby win over Tottenham last weekend.

And Wenger believes that the upturn in performance has been the product of a more committed approach from former Real Madrid ace Ozil.

He told reporters ahead of a tough-looking Sunday Premier League trip to Burnley: “Mesut Ozil has worked hard and he’s extremely fit at the moment, that’s why you see him sharp.

“The quality of his technical aspect is always there, but he has added a more determined attitude and that’s what you want from him and great players.

“Football today is very demanding on the mental and physical aspect. Mesut today is in a much better shape than he was before.

“Every player wants to be a star. When they don’t manage to do it they’re all disappointed, but the best way to achieve it is to work hard and show the quality of performance people expect from you.”

In three previous Premier League visits to Turf Moor, Arsenal have claimed two wins and a draw, claiming 1-0 victories on each of their last two trips to east Lancashire.

The Gunners are available at 8/15 to secure victory again on Sunday and are 7/1 to triumph by a 1-0 scoreline, with a 1-1 draw priced at 15/2.

Hosts Burnley are in prime form going into the game, having won their last three league matches without conceding a goal.
